An AI note-taker joins your client call
Someone’s assistant is recording, and nobody asked.
The situation
Five minutes into a call with a client, you notice an AI note-taker in the participant list. You don’t know who invited it, and nobody mentioned recording.
What do you do?
Choose the option you would take, then open it to see how it plays out. Reviewing the other options is part of the exercise.
Option A: Ignore it. Everyone uses them.
Risky
Recording without agreement can break your client’s trust and, in some places, the law. You also don’t know where the transcript will go.
Option B: Avoid sensitive topics for the rest of the call.
Part of the answer
It limits the damage, and it lets the problem continue.
Option C: Pause and ask whose note-taker it is and whether everyone’s happy for the call to be recorded. Remove it if not.
The best choice
Ten seconds of awkwardness. Afterward everyone knows what’s recorded and who will see it.
Option D: Leave the call.
Safe, but it costs you
Dramatic, and it leaves the client wondering what happened.
Takeaway
Ask before recording or transcribing, and say where the notes will be stored and who can see them.
